O día das letras galegas foi creado en homenaxe a María Rosalía Rita de Castro, xa que cen anos antes, o 17 de maio de 1863 publicouse en Vigo a obra Cantares Galegos, marcando o inicio do «Rexurdimento» Cultural da lingua galega.
Galician Literature Day was created in 1963 in honor of María Rosalía Rita de Castro, because one hundred years before, on May 17, 1863, the book Cantares Galegos was published in Vigo, making the beginning of the cultural «Rexurdimento» of the Galician language.

O Peliqueiro é o traxe característico do entroido galego de Laza, similar ao Cigarrón do entroido de Verín. O entroido de Laza sitúase entre os dez máis antigos do mundo.
